Term Limits for Directors
California law does not require term limits for directors of homeowner associations but does permit term limits. If the bylaws of a community association are silent on the subject, and the association members prefer to have term limits, the solution is to create a very simple amendment to the association's bylaws. The proposed amendment requires approval by the members by means of a secret ballot election.
On a related subject, California law limits a single term of office to four years, but an HOA director can serve any number of terms, absent term limits.
